Candy, when I met you,
I was down and out.
Filthy like a hobo,
but you didn’t raise a doubt.
My soul was dark and rotten,
my smell could scare a flea.
And I had long forgotten
the man I used to be.
Candy, can you tell me
what did you see in me.
You gave me more than soap and water
you restored my dignity.
Candy, can you tell me:
just why did I not see
that you wanted me forever –
forever to be free.
Candy, let me tell you
I’m much better now.
I wash my shirts, I clean my teeth
and I made a single vow:
I’ll never sink that deep again
cause there’s no other you
with that shiny white smile and that healing touch
and a soul so pure and true.
Candy, can you tell me
what did you see in me.
You gave me more than soap and water
you restored my dignity.
Candy, can you tell me:
just why did I not see
that you wanted me forever –
forever to be free.
